Wal-Mart Stores, JD.com Launch Three New Services Geared to Ease E-Commerce for Chinese Customers

Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) and JD.com (JD) launched three new ways for consumers to shop through the two companies, the companies said Thursday.

The efforts, geared toward Chinese customers, come as a part of an alliance agreed upon in June by the two companies, and will launch in the coming days in preparation for Singles Day, a Chinese festival, on Nov. 11. Wal-Mart and JD.com said the efforts are a way to ease supply chain issues, cross border e-commerce and online-to-offline e-commerce services.

JD.com will soon play host to an exclusive Sam’s Club store starting Friday, which will give customers access to Sam’s Clubs product while using JD.com’s same- or next-day delivery. Wal-Mart will also have a “global store” on JD.com’s platform, JD Worldwide, which will give customers access to products available in Wal-Marts. The companies also launched a two-hour delivery service for orders placed on JD Daojia, a good and grocer business from JD.com, which went live Thursday.

Shares for JD.com were last trading down 1.1% in pre-market hours, while Wal-Mart shares have gone unchanged.
